About
Alzheimer's Queensland
Alzheimer’s Queensland (AQ) is a founding member of Alzheimer’s Australia and the largest Alzheimer’s Association in Australia. From its earliest beginnings in 1983, AQ has been working to empower older people, especially people with dementia and their carers to maintain a socially valued life. We are here to make a real change and make growing old a positive experience for Older Australians by developing healthy ageing initiatives.
The Association has been working to challenge stereotypes and develop innovative programs that promote wellbeing and support independence in older age. Our mission is to work collectively with our clients to maintain their dignity, remain socially and physically active, and deter premature placement in residential facilities. We believe that each individual has a unique set of experiences and abilities that should be celebrated and optimised at every stage of life. We pay added attention to needs of consumers from the LGBTI and diverse cultural backgrounds. AQ’s specialist staff and supporters share our belief and work everyday with our clients to empower them to have a good life.
AQ provides statewide support, education, information, and direct care services. The Association owns and operates three Aged Care Homes, four Multi Service Centres, a 24 hour Advice Line and a Dementia Care Hub which collectively deliver residential and community care, and statewide support services.
AQ has also been supporting families and carers, professional health and aged care providers for the past three decades through information and education. We want to share knowledge and promote a healthy future for everyone.
In addition, the Association continues to serve as a peak body for people with dementia, and as such aims to be an effective advocate for those whose lives have been affected by the disease.
