About
Hall & Prior Windsor Park Nursing Home
“We give love, compassion and care to everyone and we want families to feel they are also part of this journey.”
Windsor Park Aged Care Home is a special place that provides a unique program specifically designed for the Aboriginal and homeless population. The home comprises two houses with large activity rooms, quiet rooms, lounge areas, and extensive shaded gardens featuring outdoor barbecue areas. One of the houses provides specialized care programs to residents with complex care needs.
The team at Windsor Park is a recipient of three prestigious Commonwealth Better Practice Awards from the Australian Aged Care Quality Agency. These awards acknowledge the outstanding innovations in care provided by the home.
The 2018 Better Practice Award was given in recognition of the Back to Country Program that supports Aboriginal care recipients to return to their regional and desert communities. The program, developed in collaboration with the home’s Aboriginal Health Coordinator Wendy Ashwin, has assisted 12 Aboriginal people in returning to their homes across Western Australia. The program involves evaluating whether the person’s health condition can be stabilised and rehabilitated to a level of fitness and independence where they can return home.
The 2016 Better Practice Award recognized the home’s Culturally Valid Care Program, developed over a decade, and utilizing evidence-based practice and strong links to key community and research groups. This program plays a crucial role in improving the well-being of Aboriginal care recipients.
The 2013 Better Practice Award was awarded to the home’s Workplace Harmonization program. This initiative transformed the culture of the home, reducing conflict and tension between staff. By providing staff and managers with the necessary skills to manage issues collaboratively, the team was able to increase staff retention and create a happier work environment within the home.
Windsor Park is a shining example of how innovative and culturally sensitive care can improve the quality of life for its residents.
