Why this aged care provider loves a Vinnies CEO Sleep Out
Jason Eldering and a team from Southern Cross Care Queensland, the Not For Profit provider of residential aged care, retirement living, and home care, will be part of Vinnies CEO Sleepout on 20 June.
"Right now, Queensland is experiencing an extreme housing crisis. An influx of interstate migration and sky-rocketing rents are forcing ever more people to live in their cars or worse, on the cold streets,” said Jason, who is on his "eighth or ninth" Vinnies CEO Sleepout.
"Queenslanders are losing their rentals, their homes, couch surfing, or sleeping out on the streets, in a car or cardboard box. Thousands of Queenslanders, including children, are sleeping rough for the first time ever.
"Having a safe place to sleep at night is a basic human right and aligns to Southern Cross Care Queensland’s mission that values and respects human life.
Jason, Martin Moriarty, Head of Business Performance; Carmel Davis, Head of Finance Reporting & Compliance; Kaye Coates, Head of Governance and Clinical Services; Mohammed Sardar, Head of Partnerships & Community Engagement; Scott Norton, Head of ICT and Matt Martin, Head of Business Strategy, will be sleeping outside at Brisbane’s Riverstage to help raise awareness and much needed funds for those experiencing homelessness or at risk of finding themselves without a safe place to call home.
They’ll also be joining business, government and community leaders across Australia in sleeping out.
1,604 CEOs have signed up for Vinnies CEO Sleepout with $4.39 million raised at time of publication.
Every dollar raised will go to Vinnies’ services, which include food, accommodation, education, counselling, employment and health programs to ensure that Vinnies’ vital services can stay up and running. Southern Cross Care Queensland hopes to raise $35,000.
