Joyce celebrates 25 years at Carinity Brownesholme and continues to embrace community life

Joyce Larkens knows Carinity Brownesholme Retirement Village and Aged Care Home in Highfields, Toowoomba, inside and out. Having moved to the Highfields community 25 years ago, Joyce has never had the desire to leave.
She and her late husband, Graham, first became part of the Brownesholme community in January 2000. "It was the most beautiful place to live, with lovely gardens to walk in," Joyce recalls. "We were very happy in the village. I loved cooking, entertaining, and gardening, and I made many friends along the way."
When Graham passed away, Joyce took comfort in knowing that Carinity’s The Residences at Brownesholme, the aged care home located next door, would offer additional support should she need it. That support became necessary two years ago.
"I had a very bad fall in July 2023 and moved to The Residences with just a week’s notice," Joyce explains. "After six weeks of grieving to be back at the retirement village, I settled into my room upstairs in The Residences. Now, I am very grateful to the lovely, kind, and efficient staff. They look after us very well. The food is excellent, and the entertainment keeps us busy and happy."
Jeannie Healy, Diversional Therapist at The Residences at Brownesholme, describes Joyce as a beloved member of the community. "Joyce is a lovely lady who attends and gets involved in almost all of our activities. She is a large part of our community," Jeannie says.
Despite the changes, Joyce continues to be active and engaged, remaining a vital part of the Brownesholme community.
