Is this Australia's greenest aged care home?
Australia’s first 5 Star Green Star rated aged care home has opened in Carseldine, Brisbane.
Rockpool Carseldine is a five-storey, 150-bed facility which uses recycled materials in the walls and concrete slabs, and was subjected to rigorous assessments of design, construction, and operations before receiving the rating from the Green Building Council of Australia.
It offers residential, respite, palliative, and memory support care, and includes a café, hair salon, and health centre; additionally, it employs HomeGuardian incident detection technology.
According to CEO Melissa Argent, the building will deliver long-term benefits for its residents.
“There were considerable costs involved; however, the legacy for our residents, staff, the environment and the efficient long-term operating costs easily made the project worthwhile.
“Everything is constantly being assessed and measured including energy and water consumption to ensure we meet pre-determined targets.
“The Carseldine site is gas-free, with the electricity-only solution complemented by hundreds of solar panels and several electric vehicle charging stations on site,” she said.
