Aged Care Employee Day: #ThanksforCaring a hit with the sector's workers
The fourth annual event by peak body Aged & Community Care Providers Australia recognising the caring and professional work of over 280,000 aged care staff was held across the country on Wednesday.
Lutheran Services, which owns and operates 11 residential aged care homes in Queensland, has made three leadership appointments to bolster its management team.
Adam Parker, Manager for Immanuel Gardens Aged Care in Buderim, has been joined by Retirement Living Manager Geoff Bland and Home Care and Supported Living Manager James Rickards.
Adam, who was appointed in October 2023, has worked extensively as a nurse in clinical settings and aged care, including 10 years in senior roles with a care provider in Tasmania.
He now oversees the management of Immanuel Gardens’ 145-bed aged care community with almost 200 staff including nurses, personal carers, lifestyle support, maintenance and cleaners at the 35-hectare site.
“I receive so much professional satisfaction when I see happy smiling faces on residents who are receiving best practice clinical care in a homely environment. We see the residents’ wellbeing at the heart of everything we do,” he said.
“It is a privilege to be involved in the lives of our seniors and I’d encourage anyone considering a career in aged care to make the move as the job satisfaction is huge.’’
Geoff supports around 140 retirees in the 93 independent residences at Immanuel Gardens.
“Before landing in the retirement living industry, I worked in hospitality including an RSL Club in western Queensland frequented by my grandmother and her friends. It was there I began to appreciate the inspirational lives of seniors.”
James Rickards has a diverse background that includes seven years in the aged care industry and four years in leadership positions in home care services and supportive living.
He leads a growing team who delivers a range of home care services where support feels like family.
“It is so satisfying being able to deliver a high level of service to people as they age.’’
Lutheran Services CEO Nick Ryan paid tribute to the 2,000 Lutheran Services employees in Queensland on Aged Care Employee Day.
“Whether you provide direct care, or support those who do, your dedication to brightening the days and enriching the lives of others is truly inspiring,” he said.
