2023 opening for 15-storey South Melbourne aged care and assisted living complex
A new 15-storey aged care and assisted living home is coming to South Melbourne, with super fund Australian Unity converting its old head offices in a $125 million project.
The Alba – co-located with Australian Unity’s The Grace retirement village – will feature 83 aged care beds, 71 assisted living apartments, and views over Albert Park or the Melbourne skyline.
The assisted living apartments will include kitchenette, living and dining areas, one or two bedrooms, one or two bathrooms, and a balcony; residents will also have access to in-house services such as cleaning, meals, nursing care, and laundry.
Shared amenities will also be on offer, including café and restaurant, rooftop recreation deck, cinema, library, resident lounges, and recreation and game rooms.
According to Beverly Smith, Australian Unity’s Executive General Manger of Residential Communities, seniors need high-quality aged care and assisted living accommodation.
“This health precinct in South Melbourne, that includes The Grace and shortly The Alba, will enable people to access a continuum of accommodation and health care options to meet their changing needs.
The Alba is slated to open in early 2023.
